A five-day break is on the horizon, but the Nashville Predators have one more task ahead of them when they host the Edmonton Oilers tonight at Bridgestone Arena. It's the final contest before the Preds take their annual bye week with their next game coming a week from tonight when the Vegas Golden Knights come to town.
Nashville is coming off a three-game road trip that saw them go 1-1-1 to start the new year, including a win on Saturday night in Los Angeles. Saturday's victory is likely to give the Preds some confidence, as they try to work their way out of their current 3-4-2 stretch, especially against an Edmonton club that is dealing with their own struggles.

But as the break looms, Nashville's bench boss wants nothing more for his group than to leave with a positive feeling, and then come right back to carry it on.
"They always say if you're winning games, you wish you didn't have the break, or if you're losing games, it's a good time to have a break," Predators Head Coach Peter Laviolette said. "We have to win a game [tonight], we have to come back from the break and win a game and just keep trying to win hockey games. I think it is good mentally and it is good physically to get away, but you always look for a response when you come out of those breaks as well."

Last Time Out:
Two goals from Austin Watson led the Preds to a 4-3 victory over the Kings on Saturday night in Los Angeles.
The win gave Nashville 54 points through 41 games - the midway point of the season - and ensured Laviolette would be named head coach of the Central Division at the 2018 NHL All-Star Game as the coach of the Central club with the highest point percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) at the halfway mark.
Roman Josi and Scott Hartnell also scored in the victory, while goaltender Pekka Rinne made 26 saves for his 20th win of the season, the eighth time he's hit the 20-win mark in his career.
With Filip Forsberg out of the lineup due to injury, P.K. Subban is Nashville's active leading scorer with 31 points, followed by Kevin Fiala with 26, and then Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen with 25 each. Craig Smith has 14 goals on the season; Arvidsson has 12, and Fiala and Calle Jarnkrok have 10 apiece.
The Opposition:
Picked as a favorite by many to compete for the Western Conference crown this season, the Oilers have had trouble staying in the playoff hunt and have won just once since Christmas, including a 4-1 loss to Chicago on Sunday.
Connor McDavid leads the club with 44 points, followed by Leon Draisaitl with 33 and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with 30. Nugent-Hopkins has 15 goals, McDavid has 14 and Draisaitl has added 11. Cam Talbot is 15-15-2 in net on the season; the Oilers also recently acquired goaltender Al Montoya from Montreal via trade.

All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 40-23-3-3 all-time against the Oilers, including a 20-12-3-0 mark against Edmonton at Bridgestone Arena. Nashville has won 10 consecutive games against Edmonton, its longest active winning streak against an opponent. The Preds have won five in a row over the Oilers at home, shutting Edmonton out three times.
Notables Versus Edmonton:
Juuse Saros set a Preds franchise record for most saves in a shutout when he posted 46 vs. the Oilers on Dec. 14. Ryan Johansen has six points (1g-5a) in his last five games against the Oilers dating back to March 14, 2016. Kyle Turris has eight points (4g-4a) during a four-game point streak versus the Oilers and has posted six multi-point games against them in his career.
