Pekka Rinne Named NHL's Third Star of the Week

Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne was honored as the NHL's Third Star of the week on Monday, the eighth time he's been named one of the League's weekly stars in his career.
The Finnish netminder went 3-0-0 over the past seven days, making 83 saves for a .976 save % and only allowing two goals in the trio of contests (for a 0.67 goals-against average) . Following a 27-save shutout of the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday - the 41st of the career and initial blank sheet of the season - Rinne was described as "brilliant" by his head coach.

"He's been so strong," Nashville Head Coach Peter Laviolette said of Rinne. "It's not like because he didn't get a shutout last game he wasn't good. He was brilliant last game. But tonight, he puts the exclamation point on it with a shutout. He's seeing it really well right now, he's in position and I think our guys are feeding off of that in front of him."
Riding a six-game point streak, the Predators head north of the border today in advance of facing 2016 first-overall pick Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night (6:30 p.m. CT with coverage on FS-TN and 102.5 The Game).
Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask and Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele received First and Second Star honors, respectively.
