The TLACC is a non-profit organization that connects its members with other like minded individuals and facilitates the creation of alliances between people, organizations and companies. TLACC has partnered with the Preds to host Family Day this past weekend and were excited to help grow the game of hockey within its community.
Nashville Predators Vice President of Corporate Sponsorship Service Robin Lee said that this was an event for local Latino families to get together to learn more about the sport of hockey and participate in many other exciting adventures throughout the day. Family Day not only allowed them to take part in an ice skating lesson, but allowed them to come closer as a family.
"We wanted to host something that would familiarize the community with the sport of hockey, Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Predators and our Ford Ice Centers," Lee said. "We've included several different elements to create a fun afternoon and to celebrate the month."
TLACC President Victor Berrios was thrilled to partner with the Preds for this event. Having worked together before, he could not wait to continue to help foster the growth of the sport of hockey and to host an event that brings people across Middle Tennessee together for a day full of exciting activities for the whole family.
"It was kind of a marriage made in heaven," Berrios said. "Today is evidence that Latinos do like hockey. With the turnout that we're having out here today, it is fantastic. My hat's off to the Preds for looking into our community and looking at the value that our community could bring to the hockey community."
Family Day is not the only way the Preds are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The team will also hold its second annual Hispanic Heritage Night at Bridgestone Arena on Friday starting at 3 p.m.
The pregame festivities on the Bridgestone Arena plaza will include live musical and dance performances by Mariachi Olimpico, Latin vendors and food trucks, mechanical bull riding, face painting and more and will be followed by a preseason exhibition versus the Tampa Bay Lightning that will incorporate several different aspects of Latino culture and music.
Before the game begins, special Predators-branded loteria cards - a popular Spanish card game - will be distributed to attending fans. Then, when the Predators players take the ice for warmups, they will be wearing custom jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Preds Foundation and GUIDER's efforts in Nashville's Latin community.
The game will also feature special Latin music, performers and activations.
