The defenseman proved a key difference maker in Edmonton's postseason run, recording an impressive 16 points (4g-12a) in 19 playoff games and finishing the postseason at plus-23.
"It's unbelievable," Prokop said. "I knew we had a championship-caliber team and the guys did such a great job battling through the season with injuries and guys being out of the lineup. I couldn't thank the coaching staff and [Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager] Kirt Hill enough for bringing me on this journey. It'll be something that I'll remember for the rest of my life."
Prokop and the Oil Kings will now travel to St. John, New Brunswick to compete for the Canadian Hockey League's Memorial Cup, starting with a slate of three round-robin games against the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champions on Tuesday, June 21, host St. John Sea Dogs on Wednesday, June 22 and the Ontario Hockey League champions on Friday, June 24.
The Memorial Cup bracket will then be determined based on standings, with the first placed team receiving a bye to the championship game, the fourth placed team eliminated and the second and third placed teams competing for a spot in the final.
Prokop was selected by the Predators in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft (73rd overall) and signed a three-year, entry-level contract in December 2020.
