Preds Win Central Division, Western Conference

Sometimes a single victory just means more.
The Nashville Predators win over the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Thursday night made franchise history in three different ways. The two points clinched the first Central Division and regular-season Western Conference titles in franchise history. The win was also Nashville's 52nd of the 2017-18 season, breaking the previous mark of 51 set in 2006-07; the Predators have already broken the former mark for points in a campaign.

By winning the Central and West, the Preds know they will face the second Western Conference Wild Card team in the opening round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, currently the Colorado Avalanche. For the latest on Nashville's future Round One opponent,

. Tonight's win also means Nashville will have home ice advantage until at least the Western Conference Final. The playoffs begin April 11.
Only one more goal remains for the regular season, as the Predators can win their first Presidents' Trophy in franchise history and ensure home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with either another victory or a Boston Bruins loss in regulation.
