Biega, 33 (4/4/88), is skating in his 12th professional season in 2021-22, the majority of which has been spent with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, where he's tallied seven points (1g-6a) in 31 games. He's also appeared in two NHL games with the Maple Leafs this season, including his Toronto debut on Jan. 1 vs. Ottawa. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound blueliner played the previous two campaigns with the Detroit Red Wings after spending eight in the Vancouver system from 2013-19 - he featured in 179 games for the Canucks and 153 for their AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, with his best statistical season coming in 2018-19, when he had 16 points (2g-14a) in 41 NHL games.
Originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft, Biega has eclipsed the 100-hit mark four times at the NHL level, dishing out a career-high 126 with Vancouver in 2017-18. Biega, who has 42 points (4g-38a) in 243 career NHL contests, began his professional career in 2010-11 after a four-year tenure at Harvard University that saw him win multiple conference awards, including consecutive nods to the ECAC Third All-Star Team (2007-08 and 2008-09) and a spot on the 2006-07 ECAC All-Rookie Team. The Montreal, Que., native has also worn a letter on several occasions, captaining Utica in 2015-16 and Harvard in 2009-10 and twice serving as an alternate captain at the AHL level.
