Nashville, Tenn. (April 10, 2019) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Niclas Westerholm from the Finnish Elite League's SaiPa.
Westerholm, 21 (8/13/97), appeared in 15 games this season for SaiPa, a career best in his second professional campaign. He posted a 2.27 goals-against average, .900 save percentage and two shutouts - the best on his team in all categories - to help SaiPa qualify for the league playoffs. He made his pro debut last season with the club and played in four games, recording a 3.23 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.
Never drafted, the 6-foot-4, 198-pound goaltender has experience playing in North America, appearing in 28 games for Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl High School during the 2015-16 season. Westerholm spent five seasons with the Karhu-Kissat junior program from 2010-15, working his way from junior C to junior A prior to his time in Minnesota.
