The National Hockey League announced today that Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has been named one of three finalists for the Norris Trophy for the 2022-23 season. Fox becomes the fourth Rangers defenseman to be a finalist at least twice for the award (including years they won), along with Brian Leetch, Brad Park, and Bill Gadsby.

The James Norris Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position." Fox earned the honors following the 2020-21 season, becoming the fourth Ranger to win since it was first presented in 1953-54, joining Doug Harvey (1961-62), Harry Howell (1966-67), and Brian Leetch (1991-92 and 1996-97).

This season, Fox, 25, recorded a career-high 12 goals, and 60 assists for 72 points in 82 games with a plus-28 rating. He ranked tied for fourth among NHL defensemen in assists and eighth in points. Fox was the only NHL defenseman who registered 70 or more points and had a plus-25 rating or better during the season. In addition, Fox ranked tied for first among league defensemen in takeaways with 88, third in total power play time on ice (292:46) and ranked tied for fourth in game-winning goals (5). The 88 takeaways were the most by a Ranger in one season since the NHL began tracking the stat consistently in 2005-06. Fox was one of only four NHL players (only two defensemen) who averaged 3:30+ of PP ice time and 2:00+ of SH ice time per game this season alongside Cale Makar, Mitch Marner, and Aleksander Barkov.

The Jericho, New York native became the second Rangers defenseman to record back-to-back 70-point seasons (Brian Leetch) and became the fourth active defenseman to reach the feat. When Fox recorded multiple points, the Rangers held a 15-0-0 record in the regular season. In February, Fox was named to the NHL All-Star Game for a second consecutive season but participated in the event for the first time in his career.

Fox has collected 36 goals and 199 assists for 235 points with a plus-87 rating in 285 career games. Since the 2019-20 campaign, Fox ranks second among defensemen in assists (199) and fourth in points (235).
