The Thornhill, Ontario native, who missed the entire 2012-13 season, established the Katie Moore Foundation in 2013. The foundation's mission is to help energize medical science looking for paths to safety and healing, and to provide more direction, advocacy, and community for patients and families battling rare cancers. The foundation bears the name of Moore's wife, who passed away on January 7, 2013 after battling a rare liver disease.
Moore, 33, registered six goals and 12 assists for 18 points, along with 18 penalty minutes in 73 games with the Rangers this past season. He established a career-high, and tied for third on the team, in shorthanded points (three), and also won 354 of 648 faceoffs (54.6%) during the season. Moore tied a single-game career-high by recording two goals, including the game-winning goal, on January 4 at Toronto. He tallied the first shorthanded assist of his career on January 19 vs. Washington, and established a single-game career-high with two shorthanded points (one goal, one assist) on March 5 vs. Toronto. The Rangers forward tallied three points (one goal, two assists) and won 10 of 15 faceoffs (66.7%) during the Stadium Series on January 26 at New Jersey and January 29 at the NY Islanders. Moore registered his 200th career NHL point with an assist on March 9 vs. Detroit and skated in his 600th career NHL game on April 5 vs. Ottawa.
In 25 games during the 2014 Playoffs, the 6-0, 192-pounder registered three goals and five assists for eight points, along with 24 penalty minutes. Moore established playoff career-highs in games played, game-winning goals (two) and shots on goal (28). He led the team in faceoff win percentage (54.5%; 175-for-321), and tied for second on the team - and tied for sixth in the NHL - in game-winning goals in the playoffs. Moore tied a single-game playoff career-high with two assists in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 17 at Montreal. He tallied the only goal in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 29 vs. Montreal to help the Rangers advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
Moore is the fifth Ranger to receive the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy since it was first awarded following the 1967-68 season, joining Jean Ratelle (1970-71), Rod Gilbert (1975-76), Anders Hedberg (1984-85), and Adam Graves (2000-01). The Montreal Canadiens are the only organization other than the Rangers to have five recipients of the trophy.
