The Rangers will play a total of 28 games against Metropolitan Division opponents this season, as they face each of the other seven teams in the Metropolitan Division (Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, NY Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington) four times apiece. New York will play 24 games against teams in the Atlantic Division, facing each of its eight Atlantic Division opponents three times apiece. The Rangers will play two home games against four Atlantic Division opponents (Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, and Toronto) and two road games against four Atlantic Division opponents (Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, and Tampa Bay). The Blueshirts will play 30 games against Western Conference opponents, facing each of the 15 teams in the Western Conference twice in 2017-18.
The Blueshirts will play 10 of their first 13 games of the 2017-18 season, as well as 13 of their first 18 contests of the 2017-18 season, at Madison Square Garden. The stretch includes a season-long, six-game homestand from Oct. 14, 2017 vs. New Jersey to Oct. 26, 2017 vs. Arizona. The Rangers' six-game homestand will be the longest the team has had since their franchise-record, nine-game homestand during the 2013-14 season (Dec. 7, 2013 - Dec. 23, 2013).
The Rangers will participate in the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 against the Buffalo Sabres at Citi Field. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Blueshirts will be playing in the Winter Classic for the second time (the Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 2, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia). The Rangers will be the road team in the contest. The 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic will be the fourth regular season outdoor game the Rangers have played (including two games the Rangers played as part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium), and the Blueshirts have won all three of the regular season outdoor games they have played in franchise history.
The Blueshirts will face the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at Madison Square Garden, which will be 50 years to the day since the Rangers played their first game at the current Madison Square Garden (MSG IV). The Rangers also played the Flyers in their first game at the current MSG (Feb. 18, 1968; 3-1 win). New York will play its first all-time game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at MSG and will play its first regular season game on the road against Vegas on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.
The Rangers will have 11 back-to-back sets during the 2017-18 season, which are the fewest among Eastern Conference teams. New York's busiest month of the season is March, as the team will play 15 contests during the month. The Blueshirts will play more home games in October (10) than in any other month during the season. In addition, the Rangers will play more road games in January, February, and March (eight) than in any other month this season. The Blueshirts play more home games on Tuesdays (eight) than on any other day during the week in 2017-18. New York will also play five home games on Mondays, five home games on Wednesdays, five home games on Thursdays, six home games on Fridays, seven home games on Saturdays, and five home games on Sundays throughout the course of the season. The 13 home games the Rangers will play on Fridays and Saturdays combined in 2017-18 are the most in one season in franchise history. In addition, the Rangers' six home games on Fridays in 2017-18 are the most in one season since 2002-03.
The Rangers' longest road trip of the 2017-18 season is four games. New York has three separate, four-game road trips during the 2017-18 season: Jan. 20, 2018 at Colorado to Jan. 25, 2018 at San Jose, Feb. 11, 2018 at Winnipeg to Feb. 17, 2018 at Ottawa, and Mar. 31, 2018 at Carolina to Apr. 7, 2018 at Philadelphia. The four games during the Rangers' final four-game road trip of the season are also their final four regular season contests in 2017-18. Ten of the Rangers' final 13 games of the season, including eight of their final 10 contests of the season, are against Metropolitan Division opponents.
Starting times for all contests at MSG will be 7:00 p.m., except for the following nine games: Sat., Oct. 21, 2017 vs. Nashville (1:00 p.m.); Wed., Nov. 8, 2017 vs. Boston (8:00 p.m.); Sat., Nov. 11, 2017 vs. Edmonton (1:00 p.m.); Sun., Nov. 26, 2017 vs. Vancouver (2:00 p.m.); Wed., Jan. 3, 2018 vs. Chicago (8:00 p.m.); Sat., Jan. 13, 2018 vs. NY Islanders (1:00 p.m.); Wed., Feb. 7, 2018 vs. Boston (8:00 p.m.); Sun., Feb. 18, 2018 vs. Philadelphia (1:00 p.m.); Wed., Mar. 14, 2018 vs. Pittsburgh (8:00 p.m.).
