Happy Thanksgiving RangersTown!
Rangers at Flyers, 1 p.m.NBC, 98.7 FM
How do you prepare for a Thanksgiving Showdown against one of your biggest rivals? By tossing around the ol' football, naturally.
The pigskin was out on the pond at the Rangers' Training Center on Thanksgiving Day, a few on-ice out patterns at the end of a practice session for the hottest team in the National Hockey League. No player had any concrete plans to switch sports, in particular given how well hockey has been going for them recently.

The Rangers could be that much tougher to face if Mats Zuccarello can make his return in Philly. The right winger practiced with the team in Westchester yesterday; he has sat out six of the last seven games with a groin strain.

Mats Zuccarello on recovery from injury

"Felt better now than it did last time. It was nice to get out there," Zuccarello said. "Hopefully I can be able to play, but it's not up to me." He added with a grin, "You've got to crack the lineup - this is a hot team to go into. So we'll see."
After missing three games after the injury occurred, Zuccarello practiced last Wednesday and rejoined the lineup the following day against the Islanders in Brooklyn. On Friday, though, he said he may have pushed himself too hard, too soon.
"They're tricky," he said. "You think you're good and then you push it too hard, and obviously when it's going good and the team's playing well, you want to be a part of it, so you kind of push yourself a little bit. It's one of those things that's tricky - I've never had it before, so it took some time for me to get used to the feeling, and how it should feel."
The Rangers know they will be without Cody McLeod, and expect it to be a while before he can return. After scoring his first goal of the season in the first period Wednesday, McLeod did what he could to avoid fighting Ross Johnston of the Islanders, but when Johnston forced the issue, McLeod would up fracturing his hand in the fight.
David Quinn said the team would know more after the weekend, but that he expects McLeod's timeline to be similar to that of Pavel Buchnevich, who suffered a broken thumb on Nov. 10 in Columbus and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
Quinn was frustrated during the game that Johnston did not receive an additional minor for instigation - "or what about a crosscheck? Or roughing?" The frustration only mounted when McLeod wound up injured in the fight.

Quinn gives updates on Zuccarello, McLeod

"(The officials) didn't think there was enough there to warrant an instigation," said Quinn, who had a long discussion with referee Gord Dwyer after fighting majors, and nothing more, were announced to Johnston and McLeod. "It's clear what (Johnston) was trying to do - Cody didn't want to fight, he left his gloves on as long as possible, and he had to take his gloves off to protect himself. They didn't see it that way.
"It's very frustrating that he broke his hand. He was doing a good job, he gets his first goal, he gives our team a lot of energy and life. He's filled a good role."
On the heels of a three-game winning streak, the Flyers have now lost four in a row (0-3-1), and their 5-2 loss in Buffalo on Wednesday was something of a mirror image of the Rangers' 5-0 win over the Isles, with the Sabres opening up a 3-0 lead before 10 minutes were gone. Claude Giroux, the League's second-leading scorer with 102 points last season, is near a pace for his second career 100-point campaign, with 25 points through 21 games this year.
With injuries to Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth, the Flyers have used four goaltenders already this season. Alex Lyon got the hook after allowing four first-period goals in Buffalo on Wednesday.
After Alexandar Georgiev's first career shutout against the Islanders, Henrik Lundqvist will be back in the Ranger nets and could start both ends of the back-to-back, which concludes Saturday afternoon at the Garden against the Washington Capitals.

NUMBERS GAME

The Rangers have scored 11 goals from eight different scorers over their last three games: Filip Chytil (goals in five straight), Chris Kreider (twice), Brendan Smith, Vlad Namestnikov, Jimmy Vesey, Cody McLeod, Neal Pionk, and Kevin Hayes.
Dating to March 6, 2011, the Rangers are 23-10-1 in Philadelphia.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Lundqvist is a career 16-8-2 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in Philadelphia. He will start for the 19th time in 23 games this season.
Of Giroux's 102 points last season, nine came in four games against the Rangers (4-5-9), including a hat trick in the season finale in Philadelphia. Giroux has 10 points in his last six games this season (3-7-10).

WHADDYA SAY?
