New York triumphed thanks to a pair of goals by Jimmy Vesey that sandwiched goals from Brandon Pirri and Rick Nash to erased a two-goal deficit in the second period en route to a 4-2 victory over the reigning Presidents Trophy winning Capitals.
"It's a tough league to play in and an even tougher league to score in," said Vesey, who now has three goals in five games this season. "This gives me a lot of confidence going forward."
After a frustrating night Wednesday against the Red Wings on the power play, the Rangers broke through with a power play goal Saturday night, and was a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill against a Capitals team with as many offensive weapons as any team in the NHL.
Both Dan Girardi and Oscar Lindberg will return from injury tonight, with Lindberg making his season debut following hip surgery this offseason. Girardi missed the last three games with a groin injury.
Chris Kreider will not play tonight due to neck spasms, while Adam Clendening will be a healthy scratch to make room for Girardi.
The Rangers also put forward Pavel Buchnevich on injured reserve, as he continues to deal with back spasms.
Henrik Lundqvist will get the start tonight after playing Saturday in Washington.
Arizona enters Sunday's game on a three-game losing streak, including a 3-2 loss Thursday night against the New York Islanders. They're in the midst of a six-game road trip that featured stops in Ottawa, Montreal and Philadelphia.
The Coyotes are a young team featuring Max Domi, Dylan Strome and former Ranger Anthony Duclair. Blueliner Oliver Ekman-Larson is one of the NHL's top offensive defensemen and is a leader on the Coyotes' squad.
Starting goaltender Mike Smith is out with an injury as has been relieved by Louis Domingue.
