Halverson

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Brandon Halverson from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Halverson, 20, has split this season between the Wolf Pack and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL. He has appeared in six games with Hartford this season, posting a 3-3-0 record. Halverson made his AHL debut on Oct. 11 at Rochester. In addition, Halverson stopped 25 of 27 shots he faced, as well as all three shooters in the shootout, to earn his first career AHL win on Nov. 16 vs. Springfield.
Prior to being reassigned to Hartford from Greenville on Nov. 7, Halverson appeared in four games with the Swamp Rabbits, posting a 3-1-0 record, along with a 1.70 GAA, a .943 SV%, and 1 SO. He made 31 saves in his ECHL/professional debut on Oct. 14 at Florida, and he earned his first career ECHL/professional win/shutout on Oct. 19 at Norfolk, as he stopped all 27 shots he faced.
The 6-4, 212-pounder played three seasons with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before beginning his professional career (2013-14 - 2015-16). In 112 career appearances with Sault Ste. Marie, Halverson posted a 72-28-7 record, along with a 2.83 GAA, a .909 SV%, and 8 SO. He established OHL career-highs in appearances (50), wins (40), GAA (2.63), SV% (.913), and SO (six) in 2014-15, and he became the first Rangers draft pick to earn 40 wins in one season of junior hockey.
Internationally, the Traverse City, Michigan, native has represented the United States in several tournaments. Halverson represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2015 and 2016, and he helped the United States earn a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. In three career appearances at the IIHF World Junior Championship, Halverson posted a 0.40 GAA and a .980 SV% (50 saves on 51 shots). He became the first goaltender who was drafted by the Rangers to play in two consecutive IIHF World Junior Championships since Henrik Lundqvist with Sweden in 2001 and 2002.
Halverson was selected by the Rangers in the second round, 59th overall, of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
