Zibanejad's OT Winner Caps Wild Win Over Penguins at MSG

In a word, the Rangers' 4-3 overtime win over the Penguins Wednesday night was wild.
The Rangers overcame a two-goal deficit just to fall behind once more before Mika Zibanejad scored with 3:17 left in regulation, and added the game-winner 2:53 into overtime.
Oh, and Alexandar Georgiev stopped Evgeni Malkin on a penalty shot with just over 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

"It was a fun game," Zibanejad said after he beat Casey DeSmith with a low wrist shot that trickled through the goaltender's pads. "It's always nicer to get away with a win in a game like this."

The goal, which established a new career-high with 22, took Zibanejad a bit by surprise.
"I kind of came late into the zone. [Chris Kreider] rolled up and I think my guy went to him and he made a great pass," he said. "I didn't really know what to do. I wanted to pass, but I ran out of room, just tried to get it on net and it somehow trickled in."
The third period had a bit of everything, starting with frustration at being down 2-0 after 40 minutes, that was followed by euphoria and some dejection followed by more joy.
Then, there was tension.
Georgiev was called for delay of game after he knocked the net off its moorings. Pittsburgh was awarded the penalty shot because there was less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Malkin, one of the league's top scorers and a candidate for the Hart Trophy, against a 22-year-old rookie playing in his sixth NHL game. Advantage: Georgiev.
"Just wanted to be patient with him," Georgiev said after he made 37 saves for his third straight victory. "Wait for maybe his first, maybe his second, third move. Wait for his (move), not go down really early. I think I was patient with that."

Kreider started the comeback with his 13th goal of the season. With the Rangers on the power play, Pavel Buchnevich fired slap shot on goal that Kreider was able to put home on the rebound for his 13th goal of the year at 8:42 of the third.
Jesper Fast tied the game when he deflected a Marc Staal shot with 5:32 left, but ex-Ranger Carl Hagelin responded 1:13 later to put the Penguins back in front by a goal.
New York shook it off and tied the game 1:02 later when Kreider hit Zibanejad with a hard pass at the top of the crease. Zibanejad and Kreider hooked up again on the game-winner, which established a career-high for Kreider with four points in a game. Defenseman Neal Pionk, meanwhile, picked up assists on both Zibanejad goals and another on Kreider's to give him a three-point night.
The Rangers have wins in two straight and points in three straight. And while it could be premature to look at a playoff run, the Rangers are playing with a devil may care attitude that's paid off as of late.
"Nothing to lose," Zibanejad said. "That's the mentality we have to have. No one is counting on us, but we believe we can win games and that's what we're trying to do."
