By the Numbers will highlight the Red Wings' on-ice accomplishments in the 2019-20 season. Each week during the offseason, By the Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on his statistical highs. This week we focus on forward Darren Helm.

With the attention focused on the upcoming NHL Entry Draft in a few weeks, it is interesting to see how other drafts have played out.
There's no question that Darren Helm will go down as one of the successes in Detroit Red Wings' draft history.
The Wings selected Helm in the fifth round, 132nd overall, in the 2005 draft, the same draft in which Pittsburgh took Sidney Crosby first overall.
Only 18 players have played in more NHL games than Helm, including his own teammate, Justin Abdelkader, who has played 739.
The only picks taken later in the draft than Helm who have played more games are Anton Stralman, chosen 216th overall by Toronto, who has played 818, and Patric Hornqvist, taken 230th by Nashville, who has played 770.
Helm made his debut late in the 2007-08 season and ended up playing more games in the playoffs -- 18 -- than the seven he did late in the regular season.
Since that Cup-winning season, Helm has done whatever the team needed, playing center or wing, playing in the top six forward group when injuries demanded and killing penalties.
With his still-elite speed and strong work ethic, Helm remains an effective forward and veteran presence on the team.
Helm, 33, has one year remaining on his five-year, $19.25 million contract.
