By popular demand, Filip Zadina was called up to the Red Wings just before Thanksgiving last season, and remained on the roster through the end of January. The sample size was large enough to show he was comfortable with the speed and physicality of the game, and the second-year winger could very well be on the fast track to earning a permanent roster spot.

That would likely be best-case scenario for the fans of Hockeytown, who are eager to accelerate the rebuild with many of the Red Wings' recent first-round draft picks taking the ice at Little Caesars Arena sooner than later.
Let's take a further look at Zadina's sophomore campaign, which was cut short after he suffered a broken ankle on Jan. 31. Zadina was angling toward a second stint in Detroit before the NHL paused its season on March 12, effectively ending the Red Wings' 2019-20 campaign.
20 - Zadina's age. The Czech Republic native - who was drafted sixth overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft - turned just 20 years of age in November 2019. He'll be 21 when the Red Wings drop the puck on the 2020-21 season.
28 - The amount of games Zadina skated with the Red Wings during the 2019-20 season. He was called up after Anthony Mantha was injured in late November, and played in the ensuing 28 contests from Nov. 24 through Jan. 31, when he suffered an ankle injury at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers. Zadina's 28 games played easily trumped his nine games of ice time in his rookie season.
8 - Zadina "filled the net" eight times in 2019-20, scoring for the first time on Dec. 12 vs. Winnipeg. He went on to tally three goals in the month of December and five in January, including two goals on Jan. 22 at Minnesota in what turned out to be his second-to-last game of the season.
7 - The amount of assists Zadina collected during his second season donning the Winged Wheel. He tallied his first point of the season with an assist on Nov. 30 against the Washington Capitals, kickstarting a spree of at least one helper in four of the next five games. Zadina's last assist of the season came on Jan. 20 at Colorado.
1 - Game-winning goal. Zadina buried a one-timer with 3:52 remaining in the third period against Montreal at Little Caesars Arena on Jan. 7, breaking a 3-3 tie and giving the Red Wings the come-from-behind, 4-3 win. It was the third of four consecutive wins for the Red Wings over the Canadiens during the 2019-20 campaign. Detroit trailed 2-0 and 3-2 in the game.
13.3 - Zadina's shot percentage, the third-best ratio among the Red Wings behind just Tyler Bertuzzi (16.3%) and Robby Fabbri (13.5%).
