DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings prospects completed Day 2 of their Development Camp journey on Monday at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena, participating in on-ice group sessions led by forwards and goalies, and followed by defensemen.

Monday featured more intense drills, including a variety of puck control sessions, agility and shooting lessons all designed to help players become better hockey players.
But for Red Wings forward prospect Carter Mazur, this camp means so much more than on-ice development.
"This is pretty special to me, especially being from Michigan and growing up a Red Wings fan," Mazur said. "To finally be part of it is pretty special and I can't really put it into words."

The Jackson, Mich., native finished his freshman season at the University of Denver with 14 goals and 24 assists in 41 games, helping the Pioneers win the 2022 NCAA Championship in April.
"Winning the national championship was pretty special, especially freshman year - you don't expect coming in and making such a big difference on a team," said Mazur, Detroit's 70th overall pick in 2021. "I felt that it went well and was excited about how our team finished."
Mazur, the 2021-22 NCHC Rookie of the Year, said he made strides in his game last season.
"I felt I came into the year not expecting a lot of myself, went in and expected a lot out of myself actually," Mazur said. "That changed a lot and I felt I grew a lot physically."
After camp, Mazur plans to apply lessons learned in his sophomore campaign.
"We've been doing a lot of meetings like nutrition meetings, learning how to cook and boxing," Mazur said. "Just all those things are gonna be good to know."
Red Wings goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa said he also took a lot away from his most recent season. Cossa, Detroit's 15th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, posted a 33-9-3 record in 2021-22, including a 2.28 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 46 regular-season games with the Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings.
"Obviously playing a lot of games, it's tough on the body and in a pretty short span of time," Cossa said. "I think just learning how to play more games and take care of my body the right way."

Cossa followed his impressive regular season with a strong playoff run, compiling a 16-3-0 record with a 1.93 goals-against average and a 0.919 save percentage in 19 games.
"It's been great," Cossa said. "It's been really nice being here in Little Caesars Arena and in Detroit. The coaching staff has been really good so far, so been pretty busy the past two days and I don't expect that to change."
Cossa was excited to arrive in Detroit for Development Camp, the next step in his pro hockey journey.
"This rink is pretty special, this organization is pretty special," Cossa said. "Definitely being here, I wanna stay here."
Another Red Wings prospect enjoying his camp experience is forward Marco Kasper, the eighth overall pick in last Thursday's 2022 Draft.
"It's been great coming here," Kasper said. "Getting drafted by Detroit, by such a good organization, it's been great."

Kasper played for Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League last season, tallying 11 points in 46 regular-season games. It's been a busy past few days for the Red Wings' newest first-round pick, but he said he already feels welcomed by the organization.
"It was extra special that Dylan Larkin called me yesterday," Kasper said. "That was really cool. Then Lucas Raymond and Michael Rasmussen texted me too, so it's for sure a good feeling that they care."

QUOTABLE

Defenseman prospect Donovan Sebrango on his style of play
"It's pretty obvious that I'm not gonna be an offensive guy at the next level. I think being gritty is something I really pride myself on and being a shut-down guy."

Blueline prospect Eemil Viro on how he views this year's camp
"Everybody here are pros. All the staff and the coaches are really high level."

Mazur on the feedback he's received from the Red Wings' player development staff
"I really haven't talked to them that much yet because we haven't had exit meetings, but I feel like they're gonna say keep working on every area of my game, every area of my game can get better."
Cossa on his goal for the upcoming season
"I think my game is gonna do the speaking for me. The management obviously has that kind of say where I'm gonna be playing, so I just wanna play at the highest level of hockey I can and compete at that level."
Kasper on what he wants to improve on moving forward
"I think details, just on the ice and off the ice too. It's good what we learn here. Right now, we're working on the ice on skating. I just want to get better at details and for sure get stronger and faster."
