Puempel, 24, is a former first-round pick (24th overall) of the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in five games with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack this season, recording one goal and two assists. The Windsor, Ontario, native split the 2016-17 campaign between the Rangers and Senators, registering nine points (6-3-9) and 11 penalty minutes in 40 games. Puempel has totaled 79 NHL games since the 2014-15 season, logging 15 points (10-5-15) and 28 penalty minutes. The 24-year-old forward has also skated in 175 career AHL games with the Binghamton Senators and Hartford, tallying 114 points (61-53-114) and 143 penalty minutes since making his AHL debut during the 2011-12 season.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound winger skated four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes and Kitchener Rangers between 2009-13, racking up 213 points (119-94-213) and 166 penalty minutes in 195 games. He skated in the 2011 Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game and was both the OHL and CHL Rookie of the Year in 2009-10, leading the league in both goals (33) and points (64) for Peterborough. Internationally, Puempel holds a pair of medals with Canada, picking up a silver medal at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and a gold medal at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
