The Pittsburgh Penguins took an early lead and never looked back, overpowering the Detroit Red Wings, 11-2, on Sunday night at PPG Paints Arena.

Dylan Larkin and Jakub Vrana both scored second-period goals for Detroit (26-32-8), who dropped its third consecutive game.

The Penguins opened the scoring when Danton Heinen collected a loose puck and found Kasperi Kapanen in the slot. He drew Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic to the left side of the crease, then tucked it past Nedeljkovic for his 11th goal of the season.

Radim Zohorna carried the puck into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 rush and fed Teddy Blueger, who scored his first goal since Jan. 17.

Evgeni Malkin's shot from just below the blue line found the back of the net on Pittsburgh's first power play.

On a power play, Vrana's cross-ice pass went to Lucas Raymond in the center of the left faceoff circle. Raymond quickly threaded a pass to Larkin, who put the puck past Penguins netminder Tristan Jerry for his team-leading 28th goal of the season.
