The Detroit Red Wings will face the New York Rangers for the second time this season on Wednesday night. Puck drop from Little Caesars Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on TNT. Ken Kal and Paul Woods will have the call on the Red Wings Radio Network.
On Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Red Wings gave up 35 shots on net and at least two goals in all three periods, resulting in their third straight loss.

According to Sam Gagner, there are benefits of working through hard times.
"I think we need to go through stretches like this," Gagner said. "It wears on guys, and you need to find ways to build your confidence back up and keep pushing for something. That's where our mindset has to be."

To be successful against the Rangers, and for the rest of the season, Detroit can't afford simply going through the motions.
"Let's understand if we let these games slip by, if we just play them and let them slip by, we're not in a better spot," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "You've got the work to do, it just depends on when you wanna do the work."

Artemi Panarin is tied for fourth in the NHL with 60 assists and leads the Rangers with 77 points. Mika Zibanejad has 26 goals this season, including two in his last five games. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin made 33 saves in the last matchup with Detroit and has a 32-9-3 record this season with a 2.11 goals-against average and .936 save percentage.
