Red Wings release 2022 Development Camp roster

DETROIT- The Detroit Red Wings today announced the roster for their 2022 Development Camp, which will be held at the BELFOR Training Center inside Little Caesars Arena starting today, Sunday, July 10 to Thursday, July 14. The camp roster currently consists of 22 forwards, 11 defensemen and six goaltenders.

Six of the nine players the Red Wings selected at the 2022 NHL Draft on July 7-8 in Montreal will be in attendance for Development Camp: forwards Brennan Ali, Dylan James, Marco Kasper, Amadeus Lombardi and Owen Mehlenbacher and defenseman Tnias Mathurin. All eight of the team's selections from the 2021 NHL Draft are slated to attend, along with nine players from the 2020 Draft and four from 2019.
Kasper is one of three former first-round picks who will be in attendance after the Red Wings selected him with the eighth overall pick at the 2022 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound forward spent the 2021-22 season playing for Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League, recording 11 points (7-4-11) in 46 games - the most points for any under-18 skater in Sweden's top professional league. He also skated in 13 postseason games to help Rogle reach the SHL Semifinals, tallying six points (3-3-6) and a plus-four rating. A native of Innsbruck, Austria, Kasper represented his country at the 2022 IIHF World Championship in Helsinki and Tampere, Finland, and captained Austria at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship before the tournament was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.
Both of the Red Wings' first-round picks from the 2021 NHL Draft will attend Development Camp in Simon Edvinsson (sixth overall) and Sebastian Cossa (15th overall). Edvinsson was a finalist for the SHL Rookie of the Year Award after posting 19 points (2-17-19) and a plus-13 rating in 44 regular-season games for Frolunda FC. The blueliner led all league rookies with an average of 19:46 time on ice and his 19 points were fourth-most all time for a defenseman under the age of 19 in the SHL - trailing only Victor Hedman (21 points, 2008-09), Tomas Jonsson (20 points, 1978-79) and Rasmus Dahlin (20 points, 2017-18). Cossa backstopped the Edmonton Oil Kings to a Western Hockey League Championship, recording an Oil Kings franchise-record five shutouts in 19 games to secure the postseason championship and earn a spot in the Memorial Cup. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound netminder finished his third season in Edmonton with a 71-16-4-3 record, 2.12 goals-against average, 0.921 save percentage and 14 shutouts.
Other prospects slated to attend include Shai Buium (36th overall in 2021) and Carter Mazur (70th overall in 2021) who helped the University of Denver (NCHC) win the 2022 NCAA National Championship; Cross Hanas, a former second-round pick (55th overall in 2020), who signed a three-year entry-level contract with Detroit after leading the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) with 86 points (26-60-86); and defenseman Donovan Sebrango, who at only 20-years-old has already racked up 96 professional games for the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL).

2022 DEVELOPMENT CAMP SCHEDULE
The Red Wings' 2022 Development Camp begins on Sunday, July 10 and features on-ice skill development and off-ice workouts each day, culminating with a 3-on-3 tournament on Thursday, July 14. The camp will be split into two sides, Team Howe and Team Lindsay, and will feature daily on-ice instruction and skill development from a team of coaches, led by the Red Wings player development staff. Attendees will also take part in NHL-level off-ice workouts and attend classes designed to help players transition to professional hockey, while receiving feedback from Red Wings coaches and management.
