DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings concluded the home portion of their 2022-23 schedule with a 6-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Goalie Ville Husso started for the Red Wings, but was pulled at 12:10 of the first period after allowing three goals against the Stars. Dallas pushed the score to 6-0 before Detroit was finally able to solve opposing goalie Jake Oettinger when David Perron scored at 16:50 of the second. Neither club found the back of the net in the final frame.
"It was one of those games that didn't go for us tonight," Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said. "We come out of the first period and have them registered for two chances, and they have two goals...That team is too good, healthy and primed for a playoff run to give them anything easy. Unfortunately, tonight we did."
Magnus Hellberg made 14 saves in relief in the loss for Detroit (35-35-10; 80 points). Joe Veleno skated in his 150th career NHL game.
With the win, Dallas improved to 45-21-14 (104 points) overall and moved back into a tie for first place in the Central Division.
"Everyone has something to be playing for," Andrew Copp said. "I got things I need to prove. (Dylan Larkin) Larks has things he needs to improve and it goes right on down the lineup. Guys are fighting for jobs, spots and contracts. No matter if we're mathematically eliminated or not, there's something everyone should be playing for."
NEXT UP: Detroit will play the second half of a back-to-back on Tuesday night, squaring off against the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena.

QUOTABLE

Lalonde on his message to the fans after Fan Appreciation Night at Little Caesars Arena
"They were energized this year. It was real. We talked about the responsibility of taking care of home ice because of how electric our fan base is. My first experience, they were awesome all year. Obviously a season with a lot of ups and downs."
Copp on saluting fans after Monday's game
"I think it's important to acknowledge. Obviously tonight didn't go our way, but you gotta be able to put that aside for 5-10 minutes and understand their support. Understand they put their hard-earned money to come and watch us play. It's up to us to put the best product on the ice."
Copp on where things went wrong against the Stars
"Pretty much right from the beginning. I would say top to bottom, every guy had a game they maybe want back or would change some things. We've been preparing pretty well for games."
