DETROIT --The Detroit Red Wings' exciting young talent is on full display at the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship.

Nine Red Wings prospects, the most among NHL teams, are representing their respective countries in the 10-team event, which runs through Aug. 20 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Here's what's happened so far in the preliminary round of the World Junior Championship:

UNITED STATES

Forwards Carter Mazur and Red Savage helped Team USA get its tournament play off to an impressive start.
In Tuesday's 5-1 win over Germany, Mazur had an assist while Savage scored a second-period goal.
Two days later, Mazur recorded two goals and an assist in a 7-1 victory over Switzerland, earning Team USA's Player of the Game honor. Savage logged 12:40 of ice time in the win.

CANADA

Goalie Sebastian Cossa and defenseman Donavon Sebrango are off to a strong start in Edmonton.
Cossa, who finished as the Central Division nominee for the Western Hockey League Goaltender of the Year last season, made 22 saves while Sebrango had one assist in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Latvia.
The next day, Sebrango, who is an assistant captain for Canada, had a helper and paced his native country in ice time (19:25) in an 11-1 win over Slovakia. Cossa did not play in the victory.

SWEDEN

Forward Theodor Niederbach and blueliners Simon Edvinsson and William Wallinder had a strong opening game in the tournament.

In Wednesday's 3-2 win over Switzerland, Edvinsson led Sweden in ice time (26:09) and had one assist. Niederbach also recorded a helper, while Wallinder finished with a plus-1 rating in 19:43.

FINLAND

Defenseman Eemil Viro continues his development at the World Junior Championship.
After recording a plus-1 rating in 19:34 of ice time in Tuesday's 6-1 win over Latvia, Viro played 17 minutes in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over Team Czech Republic.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Although he's not getting the results he hoped for, goaltender Jan Bednar is playing with a high compete level for his native Czech Republic.
In Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Slovakia, Bednar made 25 saves. Two days later, he made 28 saves in the loss to Finland.
