DETROIT - Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder on Monday, May 1. Recovery time is expected to be 4-6 months.

Edvinsson, 20, was Detroit's first round selection (sixth overall) in the 2021 National Hockey League Draft and made his NHL debut with the Red Wings on March 18, 2023, against the Colorado Avalanche. The 6-6, 209-pound defenseman also notched his first career NHL goal on March 23 vs. the St. Louis Blues. In total, Edvinsson appeared in nine games for Detroit this season, tallying two points (2-0-2) and 12 PIM while averaging 17:04 time on ice per game. The Kungsbacka, Sweden, native also appeared in 52 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League in 2022-23, finishing with 27 points (5-22-27) and 52 PIM.
