DETROIT -- After three solid efforts, the Red Wings took a bit of a step back.
The Boston Bruins were without suspended Brad Marchand yet came into Little Caesars Arena Tuesday night and left with a 3-2 victory, improving to 3-0 against the Wings this season.

The Bruins have earned points in 14 of their last 15 games against the Wings, going 13-1-1, including a 7-0-1 streak.
The Red Wings fell to 21-23-8 overall and 11-11-7 at home while the Bruins improved to 32-11-8 overall and 14-5-4 on the road.
Martin Frk (power play) and Frans Nielsen scored for Detroit while Sean Kuraly, David Krejci and Danton Heinen scored for Boston.
1. Martin Frk: When Frk shoots from that spot in the left circle, it can be tough to stop for even the best goaltenders. Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask found that out at 2:08 of the second period. With the Wings on the power play, Niklas Kronwall found Frk in his favorite place and Frk didn't miss, scoring his ninth goal of the season and first in 18 games. Frk's last goal was Dec. 20 at Philadelphia. Henrik Zetterberg got the second assist. Frk now has five power-play goals and is behind Anthony Mantha and Tomas Tatar, who have seven apiece. Frk also assisted on Nielsen's goal at 18:36 of the third when the Wings pulled the goaltender for the extra attacker. It is Frk's third multi-point game of the season. Frk finished with 14 shifts for 10:54, had three shots, one takeaway and was minus-1.
Quotable: "It definitely feels good. I was kind of hoping I'd score soon. It's too bad we couldn't help more to at least tie the game. It feels good for me but we didn't get the two points." - Frk
Quotable II: "I don't think we were good enough from the start. We were a little bit in between the whole first period. I don't know why the reason for that, but it saying that I don't think they had much either in the first. It was kind of a slow start. We worked ourselves into the game. It was nice to see we got one on the power play. Their third goal is a tough one. I thought we created a lot before and then they get one chance and it's in the net. That's tough. I thought we battled hard in the end and came up short." - Zetterberg
2. Frans Nielsen: On a night when most Red Wings were searching for their game, Nielsen provided the Wings with a spark, especially in the third period when he pulled Detroit within one by scoring his 12th goal of the season. It was Nielsen's fourth point (1-3-4) in his last four games. He finished the contest with a goal and was plus-1 in 16:16 of ice time. Nielsen also won 7-of-13 face-offs, but it's a chance he had to tie the game he will remember. Right after he scored to make 3-2, there was a mad scramble in front of Rask. The puck made its way to Nielsen, who appeared to have a wide-open net. He fanned on the shot and a Bruins defender quickly pushed the puck underneath Rask. It was a missed opportunity and the Wings' best chance to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
Quotable: "I didn't see. I just saw the puck there, I just fanned on it. I know it was bouncing right there, I think it went down on the heel or something. I did see the D dive in but I'm not sure who covered it. It's tough to figure out. I mean, we're coming back from some really good games, we were shooting pucks, we were competing, we were tough to play against and then came out tonight and no response at all. It's just frustrating and it's been like that for a long time. Like I said, it's frustrating. I really don't have an answer. You're right, soon it's going to be too late if we don't figure it out. If we play two good games again now and we stand here and sometime next week you're asking the same question, it's going to be too late. We have to figure it out now." - Nielsen
3.Jimmy Howard: After getting most of the work this season, Howard had found himself on the bench the last few games, serving as backup to Petr Mrazek. Howard had to make a lot of saves, stopping all 13 shots in the first, including on Riley Nash at the net at 12:50, on Patrice Bergeron from the right circle at 16:46 and on Krejci from the left circle at 17:15. In the second, Kuraly buried a rebound at 12:11 from the left circle and then Krejci scored on the rebound from the slot at 14:17 to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Danton Heinen beat Howard at 8:21 of the third period from the right circle.
Quotable: "Jimmy played good. I thought Jimmy has played good all year. I think you go through stretches where the puck goes in and you go through stretches where the puck doesn't go in. I think from a consistency, in terms of approach, and how he looks, I think he's looked good even when the puck has gone in, so I think Jimmy is in a good spot." - Blashill
Quotable II: "I mean, we have two good goalies. It doesn't matter who is playing. They can do really good stuff but we also have to help them a lot. It's good when you have a good goalie but it also comes down to how much you help them in the net." - Frk
