The Buffalo Sabres went 0-for-5 on the power play and allowed two power-play goals in their 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday at Little Caesars Arena.
Sabres goaltender Aaron Dell stopped 35 shots in his second consecutive start.
Tyler Bertuzzi, Robby Fabbri, Lucas Raymond and Michael Rasmussen scored for the Red Wings.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves to earn his first shutout of the season.
Buffalo's penalty kill finished 3-for-5.

How it happened

Bertuzzi cashed in on a rebound on a Red Wings power play to open the scoring 8:57 into the first period.
The Red Wings scored with the man-advantage again - this time on a four-minute power play - with 50.3 seconds remaining when Fabbri capitalized.
Detroit outshot the Sabres 22-6 in the first, with seven of those shots coming on two power-play opportunities.
The Sabres were awarded three power-play chances in the first half of the second period, but were unable to covert on any of them and generated just two shots on net.
The Red Wings took a 3-0 lead 13 seconds into the third period when on the rush, Raymond redirected in a cross-ice feed from Dylan Larkin.
With 7:36 left, Detroit killed off a penalty and as Rasmussen stepped out of the penalty box, he picked up the puck and scored on a breakaway to make it 4-0.

Worthy of a mention

Tage Thompson returned to the lineup. He missed the past two games after entering the NHL's COVID-19 protocol on January 10. He skated 16:27 and recorded one shot on goal.
