The Buffalo Sabres couldn't get anything past the Philadelphia Flyers this weekend.
Following a 3-0 loss on Saturday, the Sabres were blanked by the Flyers once again on Sunday by the same score at KeyBank Center.
Jonas Johansson, making his first NHL start since March 5, 2020, stopped a career-high 35 shots. His previous career-high in saves was 28, set in that last start.
The Flyers scored three times in the second period thanks to the efforts of Sean Couturier, Michael Raffl and James van Riemsdyk. Carter Hart made 28 saves.

Buffalo was outshot 38 to 28, including 21 to 12 in the second period.
The Sabres wrapped up the month of February with a record of 2-6-1. They did not play for the first 14 days of the month due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Buffalo has been shutout four times this season and three times this month. They were outscored 25-14.

What happened

Buffalo opened the game with an early power-play opportunity 1:14 into the game, generating three shots but unable to take the lead right away.
Curtis Lazar rang one off the crossbar with 7:20 remaining in the first. Just 19 seconds later, the Sabres found themselves on the penalty kill and were able to come out unscathed. Claude Giroux came close when he hit the post.
Philadelphia took the lead with a pair of goals in the first 1:37 of the second period. First Couturier scored 22 seconds in when he pounced on a loose puck and Raffl scored just over a minute later when he tipped in a point shot from Robert Hagg.
The Flyers added to their lead when van Riemsdyk deflected in a shot from Joel Farabee with 4:37 remaining in the second.

Worth mentioning

Captain Jack Eichel returned to the lineup after missing the last two games due to a lower-body injury.
Before the game, Buffalo recalled defenseman Brandon Davidson from the taxi squad. He and Matt Irwin suited up for Buffalo while Colin Miller was scratched and Jacob Bryson was loaned to the taxi squad.
The Sabres also reassigned forward C.J. Smith from the Rochester Americans (AHL) to the taxi squad and defenseman Casey Fitzgerald from the taxi squad to Rochester.
