At The Final Horn | Sabres blanked on the road against Lightning

The Buffalo Sabres were unable to slow down the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 5-0 loss Sunday evening at Amalie Arena.
Craig Anderson made 23 saves for the Sabres.
Corey Perry, Ondrej Palat, Nikita Kucherov, Brandon Hagel and Ross Colton all scored for Tampa Bay. Brian Elliott stopped 28 shots to earn his 43rd career shutout, putting him in a tie with Gump Worsley for 38th all-time.
Buffalo's power play finished 0-for-2 and the team went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. No penalties were called in the game until midway through the third period.

How it happened

Perry scored the game's first goal with a shot from the slot after Buffalo was unable to clear the puck out of the zone at the 9:21 mark of the first period. The Lightning scored on the next shift when Palat finished on a 3-on-1 rush to make it 2-0.
Tampa opened the second period with another goal. Hagel backhanded in a loose puck in front at the 1:12 into the period.
Kucherov put the Lightning up 4-0 with a one-time goal off a pass from Ryan McDonagh at 4:28 of the second.
Tampa continued to pour it on with Colton's goal from the slot 2:09 into the third period.

Worthy of a mention

Rookie defenseman Owen Power skated with the Sabres for the first time since signing his entry-level contract during an optional morning skate on Sunday. He'll likely make his NHL debut Tuesday night in Toronto. Read more here.
