20230323 Greenway LECOM

Sabres' forward Jordan Greenway returned to practice on Thursday morning after missing Tuesday night's loss to the Nashville Predators with an upper-body injury.
Greenway rotated into the team's line rushes. Sabres coach Don Granato said he's not ready to return to the lineup yet but is getting close.
"It's a challenging situation to play (with an injury)," Granato said. "Nobody plays full-go but to get done what he needs to, he was out there and that was a good sign. But I think he still has a little bit to go."
Greenway, who was acquired from the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline, said injuries are part of the game but no less frustrating, particularly when you're trying to acclimate yourself to a new organization.

"Everyone is going to try and play as quickly as they can," Greenway said. "You've got to make sure that you're comfortable going out there, protected when you go out there. It's a little bit of a balance. It can be hard to juggle that, but there's been no external pressure from anyone else."

Here are five things to know from practice:
1. Devon Levi is still unable to practice with the team while he waits for his immigration status to clear. Levi watched practice from the bench and Granato said there's still no timeframe for when he will be able to join the team on the ice.
"I do want to get him out there. It's unfortunate for him because you just see he's so ready to go," Granato said. "The hope is today it will clear and then we can move on and into it. That would've been a nice practice to have him in today, so yeah, it's a bummer that he wasn't."
2. Granato said a large portion of the team's struggles recently can be directly attributed to their own mistakes. After going over film with his coaching staff, the team focused on cleaning up the errors and not beating themselves.
"We've been, for a lack of a better term, stubbing our own toe," Granato said. "The self-inflicted errors have increased immensely to the point where we're making it too hard on ourselves and too easy on our opponents. The work and focus to limit those is really essential at this point."

3. Goaltender Eric Comrie participated in a second straight practice. He's missed six games with a lower-body injury but could return to the lineup sometime this week.
Comrie said he's anxious to get back in the net with the Sabres still hanging around in the playoff race. Regardless of how the season shakes out, having a few games under his belt going into the summer would be beneficial for his offseason program.
"It's not fun, I've never really been injured," Comrie said. "(This is) the first time I've been injured since I was 17 years old was this year. So, for me I never really miss time and it's hard to get back in that rhythm and that groove again."
4. Fellow goaltender Craig Anderson was absent from practice for a maintenance day. Forward Vinnie Hinostroza also was not on the ice after being excused from practice to deal with a personal matter.
