Bryson has appeared in 11 of 12 games since making his NHL debut on Feb. 23. The Sabres are playing the second of back-to-back games, which Krueger said factored in the decision to scratch the rookie.
"We need to create as much energy and physicality as wee need within the game and we just felt it's a good time for Jacob to take a rest," Krueger said.
"We love the games he's been playing, we love his development, and we just feel this is good for him right now to sit out, watch a game, and continue his strong path."
Jokiharju appeared in all 69 games for the Sabres last season. Krueger said he may have been the team's best defenseman in terms of moving the puck.
"He just hasn't been able to quite find those plays that he had last year so naturally, and maybe it's the overthinking, it's trying a little bit too much," Krueger said.
"… Defensively, it's also getting some confidence now, making sure that he stays in good positions, fights for that good ice, comes from the inside out. I just found that he was almost overly aggressive in some of his defensive plays of late. So, they're just little details."
Coverage on MSG begins at 6:30 p.m. You can also listen to the game on WGR 550. The puck drops at 7.
