Thompson named NHL 3rd Star of the Month

Forward tied for 2nd in the NHL in goals and points in December

Tage Thompson has been named NHL Third Star of the Month for December, the league announced Sunday.
Thompson tied for second in the league in goals (13) and points (22) in 11 games in December. He was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week back-to-back times on December 12 and December 19.
Washington's Alex Ovechkin and Edmonton's Connor McDavid were named First and Second Stars, respectively.

Thompson's month included an historic five-goal, six-point performance in Columbus on December 5. It was second five-goal game and 12th six-point game in Sabres history. Thompson previously had a six-point outing on October 31.

"He just continues to elevate," Thompson's linemate, Alex Tuch, said that night. "His work ethic has been unmatched lately. … He just keeps pushing, honestly, and it's just good to see."
Thompson ranks second in the NHL with 27 goals and is tied for fifth with 51 points.
