Erik Johnson scored the lone goal for the Buffalo Sabres in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins inside KeyBank Center on Wednesday.

Mason Lohrei opened the scoring for the Bruins before they tallied three power-play goals as Charlie Coyle scored a pair of goals on the man-advantage and Morgan Geekie added one.

Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman finished with 25 saves.

Devon Levi, who made his 15th start of the season, stopped 21 of 25 shots in the loss.

Casey Mittelstadt recorded the secondary assist on Johnson’s goal to extend his point streak to four games with one goal and four assists in that span.

The Sabres were without forward Tage Thompson, who missed the game due to personal reasons.

SCORING SUMMARY

Period 1, 4:19 – Mason Lohrei from James van Riemsdyk and Trent Frederic (1-0, BOS)

Buffalo outshot Boston 3-0 in the first four minutes of play before the Sabres turned the puck over inside their own blue line to send the Bruins back into the Buffalo zone. Frederic fed van Riemsdyk in the high slot for a quick shot while Lohrei crashed the net to put away the rebound.

Period 1, 13:42 (PP) – Charlie Coyle from Jake DeBrusk and Brad Marchand (2-0, BOS)

Peyton Krebs was called for tripping Morgan Geekie in the Sabres' zone, sending the Bruins on the power play. With 47 seconds remaining on the penalty, Rasmus Dahlin followed DeBrusk behind the net, leaving Coyle alone in front for a one-timer from point-blank range.

Period 2, 4:18 (PP) – Charlie Coyle from Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak (3-0, BOS)

Jeff Skinner was assessed a slashing penalty to give the Bruins their second power play of the night. Coyle scored his second of the game when he skated in on Levi for a shot and the puck deflected off Erik Johnson’s skate and in.

Period 2, 13:44 (PP) – Morgan Geekie from Charlie McAvoy and Brad Marchand (4-0, BOS)

The Bruins took advantage of another power play as Tyson Jost was sent to the box for tripping Lohrei in the Boston zone. Geekie scored on the man-advantage as the puck deflected off the end boards and bounced onto his stick. He shot the puck off Levi and into the net from the backdoor.

Period 3, 5:11 – Erik Johnson from Owen Power and Casey Mittelstadt (4-1, BOS)

Johnson put the Sabres on the board just over five minutes into the third as he ripped a slap shot from the right circle with Tuch screening Swayman in front of the Boston net.
