20230126 Comrie

WINNIPEG -Eric Comrie will start against his former team when the Sabres visit the Winnipeg Jets tonight at Canada Life Centre.
Comrie was drafted by Winnipeg in 2013 and played seven seasons with the organization - 24 games with the Jets and 207 with the AHL Manitoba Moose, which also plays at Canada Life Centre.
"I think our team will be excited for Eric to go back in there," Sabres coach Don Granato said. "You have three goalies and we've had lots of games. You've got to be able to use your guys. This is a good fit. Coms is a hard worker, he knows this building and this team well, and I think as a I mentioned there's some enthusiasm for him within our group."
The Sabres are 4-0-1 in their last five games, including four straight victories.
Coverage on MSG begins at 7:30 p.m. The puck drops at 8.
Here are five things to know.

### 2. Comrie returns
Comrie last played on January 10 against Seattle, his first game back from a nearly two-month absence caused by a lower-body injury. (He had played three games with Rochester on a conditioning assignment.)
The Sabres have carried three goaltenders on their 23-man roster. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has started six of the last eight games; Craig Anderson started the other two.
Granato praised Comrie for his work in the meantime. Comrie arrived in Buffalo this season with a reputation for his work before and after practices, which he used to stay prepared during his time backing up Connor Hellebuyck with the Jets.
"He works really hard in between games," Granato said. "He's the first guy on the ice and the last guy off and we have lots of guys that like to stay on and go on early, but he tops them all and keeps himself ready to go. I look forward to having him in there tonight."

3. Streaking
The Sabres' top line of Jeff Skinner, Tage Thompson, and Alex Tuch have continued to roll of late. Tuch enters tonight on a six-game point streak; Thompson and Skinner are on five-game streaks.
Owen Power, meanwhile, has scored goals in consecutive games after notching his first of the season in Dallas on Monday. The last rookie defenseman to tally points in four straight contests for the Sabres was Rasmus Dahlin in March 2019.
### 4. The road trip
The Sabres are midway through a four-game trip against Central Division opponents, which opened with an overtime win in Dallas followed by a close victory in St. Louis on Tuesday.
Buffalo is now 11-2-1 in its last 14 games on the road.
"You go out, and if somebody sets the bar high, you better be ready to respond," Granato said. "Our guys have enjoyed that challenge."
### 5. Scouting the Jets
The Sabres generated 41 shots in their 4-2 loss to the Jets in Buffalo on January 12. Hellebuyck, who will start tonight, made 39 saves.
Hellebuyck ranks second in the NHL with a .925 save percentage. Winnipeg boasts the second-best point differential in the Western Conference at plus-32.
Kyle Connor leads the Jets with 57 points while Mark Scheifele has a team-high 29 goals. Josh Morrissey ranks third among NHL defensemen with 51 points (two behind Dahlin).
