A flashy right-wing project with exceptional puck skills and natural scoring instincts, Dominik Bokk is at the forefront of the next wave of German hockey prospects following in the footsteps in 2014 draft superstar Leon Draisaitl.
Like Draisaitl, Bokk left him home German club to accelerate his development. Unlike the Oilers forward, Bokk opted against the Canadian junior ranks and instead stayed on European soil by joining the Vaxjo Lakers HC of the Swedish Hockey League, where he snatched 14 goals and 41 points in 35 games with the junior club and another two points (1+1) in a limited role over the course of 15 appearances with the top club.
A very raw prospect with a desirable foundation to build from, Bokk is all about the offense.
He gets out of the blocks quickly with a powerful first three steps, using his agility and light feet to become a shifty puck-handler in traffic. Despite getting on the radar for his 1-on-1 skill, fast, heavy shot, and net-front instincts, Bokk possesses excellent vision and creative elements that can see him quickly change directions and thread passes on the tape from all areas of the ice.
The next steps for Bokk are all about his play away from the puck. He comes off as a talented player that thinks the game well going in one direction, so now he needs to be an attentive student to become a more reliable defensive zone player.
A commodity like this has been a superstar at the lower levels in Germany, and with that comes some leeway as it relates to learning to play within the structure of a system. That should change now that he's firmly in the mix with a successful Vaxjo organization.
Mild concerns exist in the scouting community surrounding his intensity as it seems to come and go when he doesn't have the puck. However, there is no question that Bokk is a risk worth taking as long as he isn't over-drafted by a club looking to fast-track his development.
