Amerks agree to 1-year, AHL deal with Jesper Olofsson

The Rochester Americans have agreed to a one-year, AHL contract with forward Jesper Olofsson for the 2020-21 season. The 28-year-old is the older brother of Buffalo Sabres forward Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson tallied 28 points (17+11) in 44 games with Farjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League in 2019-20. He's collected 125 points (69+56) in 254 career SHL contests.

Sabres fans became acquainted with Victor Olofsson's lethal shot during his 20-goal rookie campaign, a weapon that was molded during backyard shooting sessions with Jesper growing up. Their father, Tony, preached the importance of developing strong, accurate wrist shots.

Sabres Linus Ullmark was teammates with Jesper in the SHL and said the two brothers have similar releases, a belief shared by those who coached both players in Sweden.

"I know he has a brother with a tremendous shot too playing in the Swedish Hockey League now," Frolunda coach Roger Ronnberg told Sabres.com during an interview last October. "I know those brothers have been practicing their shots at home since a really young age."

Added Jesper: "I would say we're kind of almost the same players. We both have a good shot, a thing we've been working on in the backyard since we were kids, too. Yeah, we kind of have that shot I would say."

The Amerks went 33-20-4 in 2019-20 and were in position to make a playoff run before their season went on pause as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic on in March. The AHL officially canceled the remainder of its season on May 11.
