2006 Dumont Senators Game 3 OT Goal Mediawall

The 2006 Eastern Conference Semifinals moved to Buffalo for Game 3 and the bout further established the series as one of the greatest in Buffalo Sabres history.

Up two games to none on the Ottawa Senators, the Sabres took a stranglehold on the series with their 3-2 overtime victory on home ice.

J-P Dumont scored the winner 5:05 into the extra period for his team-leading sixth goal of the postseason.

In 2018, Martin Biron sat with Dumont to break down the goal in an episode of "Tablet Talk."

Taylor Pyatt's cross-ice pass deflected in the air and Dumont, coming off the bench on the right wing, was able to glove it down and put it on goal.

"I just had time to grab it and put it down, and if you watch the replay, when I take that shot, the puck is still bouncing," he said. "…I would love to say I picked a corner, but I did not. I just made sure I hit the net."

Each game in the series ended up being decided by one goal with three of the five games going into overtime.

Sabres Classics: J-P Dumont

"They could have gained a lot of momentum by winning tonight," coach Lindy Ruff said Video: Dumont rewatches OT winner against Ottawa. "I thought we probably played our best all-around game [of the series]."

Ryan Miller made 26 saves in net. Chris Drury opened the scoring for Buffalo and Maxim Afinogenov also scored to put Buffalo ahead 2-1 midway through the third. However, Jason Spezza tallied twice on the power play for Ottawa, including the game-tying goal with 1:30 left in regulation.

"We haven't quit all year," Miller said. "There had been games during the regular season where we had comebacks and it was nice to see that we could carry it forward into the postseason."
