Houser, 29, split last season between the Sabres and Rochester Americans (AHL). He signed an NHL contract on March 19 while the Sabres dealt with a number of injuries in net.
He made his NHL debut on May 3 and stopped 34 shots to earn his first career victory, becoming just the seventh goaltender in franchise history to record a win in his first start.
Two nights later, he made 45 stops to win again, becoming the first Sabres goaltender to win his first two NHL starts since Mika Noronen did so on October 5 and 7, 2000.
He finished the NHL campaign 2-2-0 with a .901 save percentage and a 3.46 goals-against average.
Houser then signed a one-year AHL contract with the Amerks in August.
This season with Rochester, he's 5-4-0 with a .900 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average in 11 games played.
