The Buffalo Sabres announced Monday evening that the team has signed forward Tage Thompson to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $1.4 million.
Thompson, 22, sustained a season-ending injury on Nov. 17 in his first NHL game last season.
He started the year in Rochester, where he found early success. At the time of his recall, he was tied for the Rochester Americans' team lead with 12 points (6+6) and ranked second in the AHL with 67 shots.

In his first season with the Sabres in 2018-19, he set career-high totals in NHL games played (65), goals (7) and points (12).

Back in May, the 6-foot-6 winger gave a positive update in a 1-on-1 chat with Brian Duff, saying that he'd been building muscle and was at around 226 pounds, up 10 pounds from the start of 2019-20.
"It's kind of a blessing in disguise. I've been off for quite a while now rehabbing the shoulder, which has given be time to work on my lower-half strength so I've been doing on a lot of legs and I've been putting on a lot of weight," he said. "I feel strong."
A first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues (26th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft, Thompson also helped the United States to a gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship and captured a bronze medal in his debut with the country's senior national team at the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark.
