20220410 Sharpen Up

It's a game night in Tampa.
The Buffalo Sabres will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at 5 p.m. tonight from Amalie Arena. Pregame coverage on MSG begins at 4:30. Dan Dunleavy and Rob Ray will have the call on MSG and WGR 550.
There are reasons to be excited both on and off the ice. The Sabres added Owen Power to the roster on Friday when he signed his entry-level contract. The top pick in the 2021 NHL Draft is expected to make his NHL debut on Tuesday in Toronto.
It's looking like his first home game will be Thursday against St. Louis. Tickets are on sale now.
Here's what you need to know.

More about Power

Following the University of Michigan's overtime loss to Denver in the Frozen Four on Thursday, Power made the decision to go pro and join the Sabres.
The 6-foot-6 defenseman is in Tampa with the team. Watch here as he meets with general manager Kevyn Adams and head coach Don Granato before officially signing his contract.

Power meets Sabres in Tampa

Adams met with the media on Friday. We have the full recap of his press conference here.
A debut in Toronto would leave eight games for Power's introduction to the NHL, including four at KeyBank Center: Thursday, April 14 vs. St. Louis; Saturday, April 16 vs. Philadelphia; Saturday, April 23 vs. the New York Islanders; and Friday, April 29 vs. Chicago.

KEVYN ADAMS

"I really believe this stretch of games until the end of the season is so critical for him because you feel the NHL game, you get a good understanding of what you need to do to prepare yourself to play, the speed of the game, physicality, all of it," Adams said.
"He'll take that into his offseason and just the way he's wired. he's the type of kid who processes things very quickly and he'll learn quickly."

Levi wins Richter Award

Buffalo Sabres prospect Devon Levi has won the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goaltender in college hockey, it was announced Friday.
Levi, 20, led the nation with a .952 save percentage, the second-best mark in NCAA history. He tied for second in shutouts (11) and third in goals-against average. He was also named First Team All-American and won the Tim Taylor Award as college hockey's top rookie.
The goaltender informed the Sabres he will return for his junior season at Northeastern University in 2022-23.
"He's such a mature kid the way he looks at it," general manager Kevyn Adams said. "And one of the things he said that I found interesting is that, 'I wanted to feel that pressure every day of people looking at me like I'm a top guy,' which is a pretty interesting way to look at it."
The Sabres acquired Levi, a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NHL draft, from the Florida Panthers last July as part of the return for forward Sam Reinhart.
