20211006 Sharpen Up

The Buffalo Sabres were unable to hold off a late rally last night by the Pittsburgh Penguins, setting up a nine-round shootout that Pittsburgh ultimately won.
Buffalo held a 4-3 lead until the final minute of regulation when the Penguins were able to tie things up with 52.6 seconds left at PPG Paints Arena.
The Sabres have one more preseason game left on the schedule. They'll host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday at 3 p.m. Faceoff is at 3 p.m. on MSG and WGR 550 with pregame coverage on MSG starting at 2:30.
There will be no practice today. The team will return to the ice Thursday. We'll have full coverage for you here on Sabres.com.

Brett Murray and Vinnie Hinostroza scored early goals to build a first-period lead, but the Sabres were unable to hold it during a 5-4 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh erased a 3-1 deficit during the third period. Anders Bjork scored for Buffalo to regain a 4-3 lead, but Kasperi Kapanen buried the tying goal with an extra attacker on the ice for Pittsburgh with 52.6 seconds remaining in regulation.
Jason Zucker scored the deciding goal in a nine-round shootout.
Victor Olofsson also scored for the Sabres. Dylan Cozens tallied a pair of assists.

Dustin Tokarski and Aaron Dell split the night in net for Buffalo. Tokarski stopped 15 of 16 shots faced in 30:15 of ice time. Dell made 19 saves on 22 shots in 34:45.

Meet the newest Sabre

JONSSON-FJALLBY

Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, who was claimed off waivers on Monday from Washington, joined the team in Buffalo for their morning skate yesterday, but was not in the lineup against the Penguins due to paperwork issues.
The left winger played a combined 109 games with their AHL affiliate in Hershey over the past three seasons but has yet to play in the NHL.
He expressed excitement about a new opportunity with the Sabres.
"Just the fact that they claimed me shows that they believe in me," he said. "And that's just a really good feeling for me and I'm just going to do my best."

Amerks open camp

Buffalo sent six players down to the AHL on Tuesday as the Rochester Americans held their first practice of training camp.
Forwards Ryan MacInnis, Sean Malone, Matej Pekar and Linus Weissbach, defenseman Oskari Laaksonen and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen were assigned to the Amerks.
