On Wednesday, November 30, rookie forward Ryan Carpenter scored his first National Hockey League goal against the Los Angeles Kings. The twenty-five-year-old was in just his fourth career NHL game.

Signed as a free agent out of Bowling Green State University, Carpenter has spent the past three seasons on the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Last season, Carpenter recorded 18 goals and 37 assists in 66 games, and was one of the two All-Star representatives for the San Jose Barracuda. He was the winner of the AHL's Yanick Dupre Memorial Award in 2016, awarded to him for his outstanding contributions to the community.

Carpenter played one game with the Sharks at the end of the 2015-16 season, and was a part of the Black Aces during the Stanley Cup run. Prior to the season, he was named as an alternate captain for the Barracuda. Ryan Carpenter is the first NHL player to come from Oviedo, Florida.
