After three days off, the Sharks are finally back in action as they host the St. Louis Blues tonight.
The last time the Sharks played, they dropped a disappointing 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, nearly coming back (as they have tended to do this season) after going down 3-0 late in the second.
The new line of Joe Pavelski, Joonas Donskoi, and Evander Kane has continued to tear it up. In the three games they've played together, they've scored 16 points: 5 goals, 11 assists, including the only two goals in the loss to Columbus. This line had near-instant chemistry and is red-hot, which is a good sign for the Sharks going forward.
On the other hand, the Sharks power play has been lacking the "power" aspect recently. Today is the one month anniversary of the last power play goal the team has scored, a streak that the Sharks are definitely looking to break.
While on their mini-break, the Sharks dropped from second in the Pacific to third, demonstrating just how close the playoff race has become in the division. Though it's not must-win territory yet, every point is becoming more and more valuable as the Sharks look to make the playoffs.

This morning was an optional skate for the Sharks. Joel Ward was in full participation as well as Melker Karlsson who suffered a lower-body injury. Coach Peter DeBoer said Karlsson will be a game time decision tonight. Martin Jones is expected in net tonight against the Blues.
