In addition, San Jose receives New Jersey's seventh-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft and New Jersey will receive Colorado's fifth-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft (previously acquired from Colorado in exchange for Andrew Cogliano on Mar. 21, 2022).
The conditions of the picks are as follows:
2023 First-Round Pick: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.
Conditional 2024 First Round Selection: Should New Jersey reach the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals (and Meier plays in at least 50% of Meier's Club's Playoff games in 2023), or the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals, New Jersey will transfer its own first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft to San Jose (top 10 protected). If neither of the preceding occurs, San Jose will receive New Jersey's 2024 second round selection.
If New Jersey's first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft is a top 10 selection, New Jersey will have the option to instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft to San Jose. Should New Jersey transfer its first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft per the original condition (top-two above in Condition A), New Jersey will instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft should they reach the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals.
"This trade brings several high-level assets to our organization which can be utilized as we continue to reinvigorate our pool of young, talented and competitive players," said Grier. "Shakir is a big, mobile defenseman who leads the team defenseman in scoring this year and has the tools and upside to be a top-four defenseman in his career. Fabian is a young, developing player who brings offensive upside to the team, averaging half a point per game in the NHL. Nikita is a hard nosed, physical blueliner with good leadership skills and high character. Andreas is a proven NHL player, with over 200 games of NHL experience.
Mukhamadullin, 21, has recorded 25 points (six goals, 19 assists) in 66 games for Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The defenseman currently ranks fourth on the team in assists and sixth in points and leads in plus/minus and power-play goals (3).
Over his KHL career, he has registered 43 points (12 goals, 31 assists) in 166 games.
He has also played in the MHL, Russia's major-junior league, recording 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 18 games, holding a career .72 points-per-game.
Internationally he has represented Team Russia at the 2021 World Junior Championships, appearing in seven games. He also has represented his country at the 2019 U-17 World Hockey Championships, winning a Gold medal, and a 2019 U-18 World Junior Championships Silver medal.
The six-foot-four, 190-pound native of Ufa, Russia was selected by New Jersey in the 2020 NHL Draft (first round, 20th overall).
Zetterlund, 23, has appeared in 45 games for New Jersey, recording 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) with a plus-four rating. Over the course of his NHL career, he has recorded 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists), all with New Jersey.
He has also spent time with the Utica Comets and the Binghamton Devils in the American Hockey League (AHL), recording 90 points (39 goals, 51 assists) in 138 AHL games. In 2021-22, he finished second on Utica in points (52) and goals (24), and added eight points in five games (two goals, six assists) in the AHL Playoffs, which co-led the Comets.
Internationally, he has represented Team Sweden at the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships, winning a Silver medal in 2019. Over 12 WJC games, he recorded two goals and was also named an Alternate Captain for the 2019 tournament.
The five-foot-11, 220-pound forward was originally selected by New Jersey in the 2017 NHL Draft (third round, 63rd overall).
Okhutiuk, 22, has split the season with New Jersey and Utica (AHL), recording one goal in 10 games for the Devils and six points (two goals, four assists) in 20 games with the Comets. He made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season, scoring his first career NHL goal in his first game on Apr. 21 vs. Buffalo, and recorded an assist in his second career game on Apr. 23. Over the last two seasons, he has appeared in 15 NHL games, scoring three points (one goal, two assists). In the AHL, he has collected 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 111 games.
Prior to his professional career, he skated with the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League for three seasons, helping Ottawa reach the 2019 OHL Championship after finishing at the top regular season team, appearing in 18 postseason games, scoring two points (one goal, one assist) with a plus-four rating. The following season, he set individual career highs in nearly all offensive categories in the regular season, including goals (3), assists (16), and points (19) with a plus-30 rating. Okhutiuk finished his OHL career with 47 points (10 goals, 37 assists) in 148 contests.
Internationally, he has represented Russia at the U-18 World Junior Championship, and served as captain for the team at the 2018 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament.
The six-foot-one, 194-pound native of Chelyabinsk, Russia was selected by New Jersey in the 2019 NHL Draft (second round, 61st overall).
Johnsson, 28, has appeared in two games for the Devils this season, and has recorded 113 points (48 goals, 65 assists) in 248 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey.
He has also spent time in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies and Utica Comets, appearing in 165 games, scoring 130 points (55 goals, 75 assists). In the 2017-18 season, he helped the Marlies capture the Calder Cup Championship, leading all skaters in playoff points (24) and assists (14) and ranked second in goals. He was named the AHL Playoff MVP and to the AHL Second All-Star Team.
Prior to his professional career, he has appeared with Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League, helping the team to an SHL Championship in the 2015-16 season, and in the 2013-14 season earned the SHL's Rookie of the Year award and led all SHL juniors in points (24).
Internationally, he has represented Team Sweden at the 2014 World Junior Championships, recording six points (three goals, three assists) in seven games, helping the team earn a Silver Medal.
The five-foot-10, 195-pound forward was originally selected by Toronto in the 2013 NHL Draft (seventh round, 202nd overall).
Meier, 26, played in 57 games for San Jose this season, registering 52 points (31 goals, 21 assists). He led the team in goals, ranked second in points and was fifth in assists at the time of his trade. He reached the 30-goal threshold for the second consecutive season and third time in his career.
The forward logged 451 games with the Sharks since his debut in the 2016-17 season and amassed 316 points and 154 goals, top-10 in Sharks history in both categories. He scored a franchise record five goals on Jan. 17, 2022 against the Los Angeles Kings, is one of four all-time Sharks with three or more 30-goal seasons and earned NHL All-Star honors in the 2021-22 campaign. Meier remains as the only Swiss-born player to reach the 30-goal threshold in multiple seasons, and holds the Swiss record for most goals in a single season (35).
"Timo has been an exceptional player and teammate for the Sharks franchise for the past seven seasons," said Grier. "He was drafted here and has grown into one of the NHL's most imposing power forwards and will be missed by his teammates on the ice and our organization off the ice. These decisions are always extremely difficult but at this time, it is in the best interest of the organization's goal to quickly return to being one of the NHL's top teams. We wish Timo the very best and he will always remain a part of the San Jose Sharks family for life."
The six-foot-one, 220-pound native of Herisau, Switzerland was selected by San Jose in the first round (ninth overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Harrington, 29, skated in 28 games with the Sharks this season, finishing with seven points (one goal, six assists). The defenseman, who joined the Sharks on a tryout during preseason camp before signing a one-year contract, also appeared in five games with the San Jose Barracuda, registering one assist.
Ibragimov, 22, has been with the Sharks' ECHL affiliate, Wichita Thunder, throughout the campaign and has 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 52 games. He played in 23 AHL games with the Barracuda in 2021-22, notching one goal and one assist. Ibragimov was selected by San Jose in the 2019 NHL Draft (sixth round, 164th overall).
Hatakka, 22, appeared in eight games for the Barracuda, recording two assists. He has appeared in nine NHL games, collecting two assists and also 49 AHL games, scoring 14 points (three goals, 11 assists). Hatakka was selected by San Jose in the 2019 NHL draft (sixth round, 184th overall).
Emond, 22, earned a 3-1-0 record in four games for the Wichita Thunder, earning a 2.22 goals-against average and .936 save percentage. Emond was originally selected by San Jose in the 2018 NHL Draft (sixth round, 176th overall).
