San Jose Sharks (

) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed defenseman Kyle Burroughs to a three-year contract worth $3.3 million ($1.1 million average annual value).

"Kyle is a high-character, competitive player who brings several characteristics that we are looking for in a Shark," said Grier.

Burroughs, 27, registered five points (two goals, three assists) and 62 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Vancouver Canucks in 2022-23. He set a career high in goals this season with his second goal of the season coming at San Jose on Nov. 27, 2022 and the defenseman matched a career best with a pair of assists in Vancouver's final game of the campaign on April 13 at Arizona.

Burroughs has tallied 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 95 career NHL games between Vancouver and Colorado. Prior to earning a full-time roster spot with Vancouver for the 2021-22 season, Burroughs spent nearly six full seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Colorado Eagles, totaling 86 points (18 goals, 68 assists) and 431 penalty minutes in 324 games. The rugged defenseman set career highs in games played (75), goals (six), points (25) and plus-minus (plus-16) in the 2017-18 season.

The six-foot, 193-pound native of Vancouver, British Columbia was originally selected by the New York Islanders in the 2013 NHL Draft (seventh round, 196th overall).
