) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed forward Fabian Zetterlund to a two-year contract worth $2.9 million ($1.45 million average annual value).

"We are happy to have Fabian back with our group for the next couple of years," said Grier. "We are looking forward to his progression and watching him grow within our organization after his first full season in the NHL last year."

Zetterlund, 23, registered 23 points (six goals, 17 assists) in 67 games in 2022-23 between the Sharks and New Jersey Devils. He skated with San Jose in the final 22 games of the campaign after being acquired via trade on Feb. 26, tallying three assists.

The Karlstad, Sweden native played in the IIHF World Championship following the season and notched three points (two goals, one assist) in four games.

He made his NHL debut on Nov. 18, 2021 with the New Jersey Devils against Florida, notched his first NHL point on April 9, 2022 against Dallas, an assist, and scored his first NHL goal on April 12, 2022 against Arizona. In 81 career NHL games, Zetterlund has totaled 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists).

Zetterlund played in three seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL), including two with the Binghamton Devils, 2019-20 and 2020-21, and one with the Utica Comets in 2021-22. His most productive AHL campaign came with Utica, finishing second on the club with 52 points (24 goals, 28 assists). In 138 career AHL games, Zetterlund tallied 90 points (39 goals, 51 assists).

Prior to his North American debut, he appeared in 66 SHL games from 2015-16 through 2018-19 with Farjestad BK and represented Sweden at the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships, winning a Silver Medal in 2018.

The five-foot-11, 220-pound forward was acquired from the Devils along with forward Andreas Johnsson, defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin, defenseman Nikita Okhotiuk, a 2023 first-round draft pick (26th overall; Quentin Musty), a conditional 2024 first-round draft pick and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Zachary Emond, Scott Harrington, Santeri Hatakka, Timur Ibragimov, Timo Meier (50-percent retained) and a 2024 fifth-round draft pick on February 26, 2023. Zetterlund was originally selected by New Jersey in the 2017 NHL Draft (third round, 63rd overall).
