San Jose Sharks (

) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed forward Jacob Peterson to a one-year, two-way contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Jacob is a smart, versatile young forward that fit in well with our group last season," said Grier. "We're looking forward to having him back and building upon that start."

Peterson, 23, appeared in 11 NHL games for San Jose this season, recording eight points (two goals, six assists), along with one game for the Dallas Stars. He was recalled by the Sharks from the American Hockey League (AHL) on March 22 and scored his first goal in teal on April 1 at Arizona as part of a seven-game point streak (two goals, five assists) spanning from March 28 through April 10.

Peterson appeared in 44 games this season for the Texas Stars of the AHL, logging 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists), before being acquired by San Jose from Dallas in exchange for forward Scott Reedy on March 3. Following the trade, he registered six points (one goal, five assists) in eight games for the San Jose Barracuda to bring his AHL season totals to 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in 52 games.

In his two-season NHL career, Peterson has recorded 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) in 77 games. He scored in his NHL debut with Dallas on Oct. 14, 2021 and finished the 2021-22 season as the League co-leader in game-winning goals by a rookie (five).

Internationally, Peterson represented Sweden at the 2022 IIHF World Championship and finished the tournament with five points (two goals, three assists) in five games.

The six-foot-one, 180-pound native of Lidkoping, Sweden was originally selected by Dallas in the 2017 NHL Draft (fifth round, 132nd overall).
