Marleau serves as San Jose's all-time franchise leader in points (1,102), goals (518), power-play goals (161), game-winning goals (101), games played (1,551) and ranks second in Sharks history in assists (584). San Jose made the playoffs in 17 of his 20 seasons with the club (1997-98 through 2016-17, 2019-20), and Marleau currently ranks first in Sharks playoff history in games played (177), goals (68), points (120), power-play goals (23) and game-winning goals (16). He served as the team's captain from 2003 through 2009.
Marleau, 41, returned to the Sharks organization last season, after spending two seasons (2017-2019) with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He appeared in 58 games with the Sharks, recording 20 points (ten goals, ten assists). Marleau was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline in exchange for a third-round draft selection in the 2021 NHL Draft (traded to Minnesota for Ryan Donato).
In total for 2019-20, Marleau played in 66 games with the Sharks and Pittsburgh, recording 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) with 14 penalty minutes.
With San Jose last season, Marleau achieved several milestones in his 58 contests. In his first game back in teal, Marleau scored two goals to become the eighth player in NHL history to score a goal in his teens & 40s with the same franchise on Oct. 10 at Chicago. On Dec. 12, 2019 vs. the New York Rangers, he and Joe Thornton became the first set of teammates in NHL history having 1,600 regular-season games to their resume to play in the same game. Marleau appeared in his 1,700th NHL game on Jan. 11 vs. the Dallas Stars to become the fifth skater to reach the mark and scored his 100th career game-winning goal as a Shark the same night. On Jan. 27, he collected his 1,100th point as a Shark, achieving his 22nd consecutive season of at least 10 or more goals.
Entering the 2020-21 season, Marleau currently sits fifth on the NHL's all-time games played list (1,723), 44 games shy of Gordie Howe's all-time record (1,767). He ranks 25th on the NHL's all-time goals list (562) and 50th on the all-time points list (1,188). Among active NHL players, he ranks first in games played, second in goals, fourth in points, seventh in assists and second in game-winning goals.
In 1,723 career NHL games with Toronto, San Jose and Pittsburgh, Marleau has compiled 562 goals, 626 assists and 1,188 points.
The three-time NHL All-Star (2004, 2007, 2009) was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2007 and 2014, and has played in 854 consecutive games entering 2020-21.
Marleau won gold medals with Canada at the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014, and represented Canada at the 2004 World Cup as well as four World Championships (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005).
