Lorentz, 26, appeared in 67 games last season with the Carolina Hurricanes, posting 13 points (eight goals, five assists) and eight penalty minutes. The forward played in his 100th career NHL game on March 17 at Toronto. Lorentz made his NHL debut during the 2020-21 season, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) in 45 games with the Hurricanes, where he played alongside Sharks goaltender James Reimer. In 112 career NHL games, he has 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) and 16 penalty minutes. He has also added three points (three assists) and 21 penalty minutes in 16 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Carolina.
In 61 games with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) in 2019-20, Lorentz collected 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) and ranked second on the club in goal scoring. He was also a member of Charlotte's Calder Cup-winning team in 2018-19. Prior to beginning his professional career in the Hurricanes system, Lorentz played four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Peterborough Petes from 2013 to 2017, totaling 164 points (75 goals, 89 assists) in 247 OHL games. He served as an alternate captain during the 2016-17 season, where he posted career highs in goals, assists and points (29 goals, 32 assists).
The six-foot-four, 207-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario was originally selected by Carolina in the 2015 NHL Draft (seventh round, 186th overall).
