Blackwood, 26, appeared in 22 games with the New Jersey Devils during the 2022-23 season, earning a 10-6-2 record with a 3.20 goals-against average (GAA) and a .893 save percentage (SV%). He also played in two American Hockey League (AHL) games with the Utica Comets, earning a 3.03 GAA, .891 SV% and a 1-1-0 record.
Over the course of his professional career, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native has appeared in 152 NHL games, all with New Jersey, owning a 65-57-18 record, 2.97 GAA, .906 SV% and eight shutouts. He set career highs in wins (22), games played (47), and shutouts (three) during the 2019-20 shortened season. He has also played in 90 AHL contests between Utica, Binghamton Devils, and Albany Devils, earning a 33-42-11 record with a 2.96 GAA and .896 SV% with six shutouts. In the 2018-19 AHL season, he was named to the AHL All-Star Classic.
Prior to his pro career, Blackwood played across three seasons for the Barrie Colts, recording a career 84-42-4 record, 2.94 GAA, .910 SV% and six shutouts in 139 games. In his rookie campaign with the team, he led OHL rookie netminders in games played (45), wins (23) and GAA (2.98), and was named to the OHL First All-Rookie team. He also played in 10 postseason games where he posted a 2.61 GAA and .904 SV%. In his final season with the club, he was named as the OHL Goaltender of the Year and OHL First All-Star Team in 2015-16.
Internationally, he has represented Team Canada at the 2019 World Championships where he helped win a Silver Medal and 2016 World Junior Championship.
