SAN JOSE, CA -The San Jose Sharks (

) announced today that forwardTimo Meier (

) has been selected as the "Sharks Player of the Year" for 2019-20 in a vote by the Bay Area media. The award is presented to the player who contributes the greatest amount of success to the Sharks in the 2019-20 regular season. This is the first time Meier has been honored with this award.

Meier, 23, recorded 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) in 70 games played this season. He led all San Jose skaters in points, was second in goals, third in assists, and tied for fourth in power-play points (9). His 155 hits paced all Sharks forwards and was second overall. Meier registered a career-high in average time on ice per game (17:17) and reached the 20-goal mark for the third straight season with his goal on Feb. 17 vs Florida. Additionally, he scored his first career hat trick and recorded a career-high plus/minus for a single game (+5), both on Dec. 28 vs. Philadelphia, tallied his fourth career three-point game (two goals, one assist) on Feb. 6 at Edmonton, and earned a career-high five-game assist streak (three goals, six assists) from Nov. 5 to Nov. 14. Meier played in his 200th career NHL game on Oct. 16 vs. Carolina.

The six-foot, 210-pound native of Herisau, Switzerland was originally drafted by San Jose in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft (ninth overall).
